From a young age, Stian Macshane’s passion for music and connection with others illuminated his path. His eagerness to share creative ideas and musical experiences became a driving force in his journey as an entertainer. Growing up in a home filled with the sounds of his musician father and the sharp wit of his mother, Stian was immersed in a rich tapestry of creativity. With instruments scattered throughout the house and laughter echoing from his mother’s clever quips, he was nurtured in an environment that fostered both musical and comedic talents.
Stian began his journey experimenting with guitar, drums, bass, and music production, eventually forming original bands and performing live as a teenager. This ignited a sense of endless possibility, propelling him to explore diverse forms of creative expression. Soon, he discovered his true calling behind the microphone, where he united people through his unique humor and infectious energy. Freestyle rap captured his heart, and he became determined to master this exhilarating art, chasing opportunities to perform at every turn.
His relentless pursuit led him to collaborate with DJs and musicians across various genres, including Hip Hop, Drum and Bass, Dubstep, and Jazz. Known for his “magic trick” of transforming any topic into seamless rhymes, Stian quickly established himself as a skilled freestyle artist, drawing audiences in with his interactive performances. His original music garnered accolades, including the WAM Award for Best Hip Hop song in 2017, and his dynamic MC’ing opened doors for international tours.
Stian’s magnetic presence naturally led him to the world of comedy, where he began performing improvised rap based on audience suggestions. This journey culminated in a collaboration with fellow comic Daniel Delby, resulting in the interactive game show Whose Rhyme. Since its debut in 2021, the show has wowed and captivated crowds in Australia and beyond, celebrated for its high-energy interactivity and improvised challenges. With its motto of “no two shows are ever the same,” Whose Rhyme has become a favorite at festivals, comedy clubs, and corporate events, resonating with audiences of all ages.
Driven by his passion for learning and sharing, Stian created Rhythm and Poetry workshops that blend rap and creative writing, making poetry engaging for students. By modernizing the English curriculum, he empowers young minds to embrace the art of self-expression, helping them discover the joy he found in creativity. Stian’s impact extends into the community, performing at events like Telethon’s Kids Big Day Out, inspiring people of all ages to explore rap as a powerful storytelling medium.
In his 2022 TEDx Talk, Stian shared his personal journey with ADHD, showcasing how he channels its energy into creativity and encouraging others to embrace their unique traits. His dedication has led to fundraising for ADHD WA and supporting the neurodivergent community through workshops. With extensive experience hosting events like the WA Youth Work Awards and serving as MC for various festivals, Stian exemplifies versatility in every role he takes on.
